40 for 40

#40for40: Saving Grace 5k
April 11, 2019

Anyone who knows Julie Seneca, our Director of Accounting, knows she’s also our resident fitness queen. As a result, she’s been heading up many of our fitness based acts of kindness for our #40for40 campaign and we are so thankful to her for seeking out charity walks in our area and taking on the task of handling registration for each of our employees in attendance! Part of the fun of this campaign is getting to witness what our employees are truly passionate about. In this case, Julie was able to apply her love for dogs (especially her own two rescue pups, who she swears rescued her as much as she did them), and share it with the whole company to support Saving Grace NC, a local rescue organization here in Raleigh.

Saving Grace is a no-kill rescue organization and pet adoption agency that is focused not only on getting their rescues adopted, but on giving them the happiest possible life they can while they’re in Saving Grace’s care. With an army of foster homes, loving volunteers, and area locals who can take a dog for a weekend-long puppy playdate, Saving Grace operates on more than just helping these animals survive; the organization helps these animals to thrive.  Their mission statement is simple and short: “Saving Grace is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization in North Carolina dedicated to helping homeless animals in our community find permanent, loving homes where they will be treated as family members for the rest of their lives.” Their impact on abandoned and stray animals in our community and the humans who are lucky enough to adopt a Saving grace pet, however, is huge.

Julie summarized her day at Saving Grace’s 5k Walk for us below. Thank you, Julie, for organizing another wonderful event in which Maupin Travel could participate!

“The Saving Grace Dog Days 5k and 2 mile walk was lots of fun.  The walk was held along the greenway at the NC Museum of Art, which is a beautiful area, accented by gorgeous sculptures along the greenway. I’m guessing there were 700+ participants between the walk and the race and plenty of adorable dogs!  Some participants walked with their own dogs and others had signed up to walk with some of the rescued dogs available for adoption through Saving Grace.  The skies were overcast earlier in the day but just as the race/walk began the skies turned blue and the sun came out! Kellie Iannon, one of our corporate advisors, brought one of her dogs, Sam, to join us in the walk.  I will definitely do this walk every year and register earlier so I can walk one of the pups available for adoption (I signed up too late this year to walk one of their sweet pups)!  They also had puppy pens with puppies available for adoption who were busy playing and meeting new people, vendors and food trucks on the museum grounds.  It was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon and raise awareness for the amazing work Saving Grace does every day to help these adorable rescue dogs find their forever home!!”
